WHAT IS DRY NEEDLING?

Dry needling, also known as trigger point dry needling or intramuscular manual therapy, is a technique used to treat musculoskeletal pain and movement issues.

Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is part of modern Western medicine and is supported by research.

It involves inserting thin, sterile needles into or near trigger points in your muscles to relieve pain and enhance movement.

BENEFITS OF DRY NEEDLING

PAIN RELIEF
Immediate Relief: Many patients experience pain reduction right after their first session.
Chronic Conditions: Effective for conditions like chronic whiplash, which don’t respond well to exercise alone.

IMPROVING MOVEMENT
Enhanced Range of Motion: Ideal for athletes and individuals with restricted movement.
Strength and Tolerance: Studies show improved movement and pain tolerance, especially in athletes.

SUPERFICIAL VS. DEEP TISSUE
Superficial Dry Needling (SDN): Less invasive, ideal for those who cannot tolerate deeper penetration.
Deep Dry Needling (DDN): Targets deeper muscle tissues, effective for severe muscle shortening and nerve compression.

HOW IT

Works

STEP 1: ASSESSMENT
Your therapist will review your medical history and perform a physical exam to determine if dry needling is right for you.

STEP 2: TREATMENT
Sterile, single-use needles are inserted into trigger points to stimulate your muscles and connective tissues.

STEP 3: POST-TREATMENT
You’ll be advised to keep moving and hydrate well to maximize the benefits of your treatment.
